Bioplastic applications have largely been across two major materials, poly lactic acid (PLA) and polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). While there are immense benefits proposed through the development of bioplastics derived from these sources, the technologies involved in processing these basic components of bioplastics have received less importance. As with most other technologies, the processing of these biomonomers is an important aspect in developing the final product. To that end, there has been little innovation in terms of processing technology in the bioplastics area. The challenge lies in developing innovative means of effective processing solutions that would allow for improve bioplastic commodities.
