Several telecommunications networks in several markets are about to or have started to implement their respective third-generation (3G) mobile phone strategies. Handsets designed to work with 3G networks are envisioned as multi-functional devices that come with various applications including digital camera, MP3, games and videophone. These features demand huge amount of data processing capabilities, and to be able to offer these advanced services, third-generation mobile phones need to have application processors (AP) that come with on-chip functions and interfaces.
