摘要

Although trade and politics have made the world a smaller place, politics and businesses remain local in most parts of the world (Starke-Meyerring, 2005). Therefore, industries and practices are being designed for culturally diverse audiences. While developing products, collaborating with individuals across local as well as global contexts has become important for engineers. To interact efficiently, they need to understand a range of linguistic, cultural, and technological factors that can affect professional interactions in different contexts. Teaching and Training for Global Engineering Perspectives on Culture and Professional Communication Practices edited by Kirk St. Amant and Madelyn Flammia serves as a response to this need of intercultural professional communication training in formal educational settings. The book is a collection of 11 essays that describe approaches for analyzing how cultural factors influence translation, document design, and visual communication and also discusses strategies for addressing the issue of international communication in a range of classes and training sessions.
