I enjoyed James Glass's article on plumbing manifolds (FHB #261). It is a great example of innovation, as it shows how we can adapt, overcome, and improvise to keep projects moving forward or to provide a workaround. I like his manifold design with one exception-the dead legs. It is always prudent to avoid dead legs on the cold-water side (or in any potable-water system). This will prevent bacteria growth and the buildup of other unwanted solids (lead and copper delivered by the public water utility) to keep the water at its highest quality. With PEX, it is very easy to cut in new connections and remove test ports once everything is commissioned.
