The rising cost of ammunition has become a topic of conversation from the firing range to the local gun shop-and it's going to get worse before it gets better. The rising cost of ammunition may not be much of a concern for fair-weather shooters who only fire a box or two of ammunition a year, but it is a major concern for the average S.W.A.T. reader. At the risk of sounding like a politician, I feel your pain.rnWith the above in mind, beginning with this issue, we will be running a recurring series of articles that may help you keep shooting-and not have to take out a second mortgage on the homestead to do so. Kicking off our Shoot 'N' Save series, this month we feature the Olympic Arms Partner AR upper receiver chambered for the ubiquitous .22 Long Rifle cartridge. While a case of .223/5.56mm is currently running at around $400, bulk packed .22 LR will set you back about $12 for 550 rounds. This means you can practice things that will make you a better shooter-sight alignment, trigger control, reset, follow-through-pesky little things like that, for about two cents per round. No, it will not replace periodically shooting with service ammunition, but it may help you keep up on the basics-and that is where all good shooting begins and ends.
