The Ultimate Fighting Championship has developed a huge fan base, and almost without exception all championship fights are sold out, with numerous celebrities sprinkled throughout the crowd. As a martial art-rnist myself, I approve, as there is much to be said for owning a skill set that can be useful for personal defense. I believe that the average reader of S.W.A.T. Magazine owns a handgun, but empty hand skills are a must to make sure that we can fight our way to that handgun in some situations. In addition, there are physical confrontations that do not warrant the use of a handgun at all.rnA possible problem with the MMA, craze is that MMA is a violent sport that can attract aggressive, anti-social individuals. My own MMA instructor, from whom I study submission wrestling, has turned away people whom he described to me as "cranked-up, street-hardened thugs" who want to learn skills that would make them even better at imposing their will on others.
