Intimate Enemies: Violence and Reconciliation in Peru

Kimberly Theidon first visited Peru in 1987, arriving as an undergraduate on a precariously meagre research grant. She found a country on the verge of collapse due to economic and political chaos. While hyperinflation was creating serious problems for the country's poor (a majority of the population), the existential threat posed by the Shining Path precipitated much of the suffering and violence.
