First offshore wind farm in the USA approved

The US Department of the In-terior has approved the first offshore wind park in the United States. The Cape Wind Project will have a capacity of 468 MW, with 130 turbines of 3.6 MW each. The wind park will be constructed in Nantucket Sound, off the coast of the state of Massachusetts. The project developer Energy Management Inc. has calculated that the construction work will take around two years. The planned capacity of the project was originally higher, but had to be reduced to fulfil requirements limiting the visual effect on historic landscape features. The distance to the nearest coast is over 8.3 km (5.2 miles).
