Phaesun GmbH from Germany has installed net-independent solar electricity systems for police barracks in the West-African country of Liberia with the help of Liberian installers. The last of five 12 V complete systems was put into operation in early May. The solar installations in the Lofa region in the far north of the country have a capacity of 1 or 2 kW, depending on the equipment installed. They provide power for lighting, water supply and the operation of chargers for mobile phones. All the components, including the solar modules, charger controllers, batteries, motion sensors, water pumps, energy-saving bulbs and the charging stations were supplied by Phaesun GmbH.
