Democratic, decentralised and renewable - this is how the pioneers of wind and solar power envisaged the future. It was to be the antithesis to monopoly structures in the energy sector, of centralised generation plants and the game of risk that people all around the world were sold in the shape of nuclear power stations. From this alternative draft grew the power which transformed dedicated engineers with garage workshops into company managers with turnovers in the millions. However, not much remains anymore concerning that triad: democratic, decentralised, renewable.
