The photovoltaics industry had less than seven good years before the crisis hit. To borrow from Darwin, the motto is now "survival of the fittest". How quickly things can change. Just five years ago, the module manufacturers were seen as the suckers of the solar industry. They barely managed EBIT margins (EBIT/tumover) of 10 % or less, while further back in the value creation chain the corks were popping for the 20 to 30 % profit margins that were common then. Project planners were not doing much better.
