Business model for climate protection

Togo offers an ideal climate for cultivating jatropha. International and Togolese companies are teaming up to develop trading in biodiesel and emission certificates. One of the instruments of climate protection policies in Europe is trading greenhouse gas emission allowances, known as the EU emission trading scheme. To participate, companies need emission certificates for the exact amount of CO_2 emitted. If they want to expand they have to buy additional certificates. Following the second phase of the European emission trading scheme, they can also do so in emerging and developing countries if these implement climate protection projects.
