The benefits of renewable energy, including solar energy, in helping reduce global greenhouse gas emissions are well known and well documented. For example, the recent report by the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 2014: Mitigation of climate change once again demonstrates the benefits associated with nations increasing the share of renewable energy in their energy mix. However, what is not as well studied - and what is missing from this most recent report - is an analysis of the benefits that solar fields provide as a robust and resilient energy supply enabling countries to lessen the impact of the growing number of extreme weather-related disasters.
