With his 1999 Shaping of deduction in Greek mathematics, Reviel Netz set out to change the history of ancient mathematics, and succeeded in doing so. His two recent books continue along the same path, as part of a wide-ranging project which sees on the one hand an original approach to editing and translating ancient mathematical texts, and on the other hand, an attempt at drawing a new, longue duree picture of the development of mathematics from antiquity to the Middle Ages.
