Learning high-impact tricks of the trade from artisan microbusinesses

When artists flip the mental switch from seeing one another as potential competition to potential sources of increased profits, a shrewd win-win vision can inspire them to join forces in a shared space. A research paper by Hill (2020) examines the ways in which creative artisan entrepreneurs can organize their business development activity through cooperative collaboration, in order to gain access to a wider variety of entrepreneurial capital. Specifically, the microprocesses that artisan entrepreneurs can implement to maximize their output and strategic social relationships are explored. Data were gathered from a case study of three UK-based artisan entrepreneurs who work together in one studio space ("studio X") in a building called the "Creative". Insights were collected from attending a series of workshops and through interviews with the entrepreneurs in their studio.
