For big pharma, knowing that biotechs can add value to their business is only the beginning of the story. This alone does not guarantee a successful merger any more that knowing you don't want to live alone will offer you the certainty of a long and successful marriage (Studer and Thomas, 2016). Competition for the most successful biotechs is becoming more acute as this process is gaining popularity. Pharmaceutical companies also need to master the deal making process and valuation of a target (Mazzariol and Thomas, 2016) as well as the highly complex process of post-merger integration.
