The microfinance industry is connoted with a double mission: economic and social. Performance on both indicators is essential for firms to be appreciated. The sale of existing shares mainly benefited historical shareholders. Firms have to be sensitive to social expectations in terms of acceptable interest rates and acceptable profit margins when dealing with the poor.
