Since the first routine commercial shipments of direct reduced iron (DRI) about 20 years ago, a number of papers have been presented with titles like 'Handling, Shipping and Storage of Direct Reduced Iron' and in each case the title was a euphemism. The actual subject was always related to a phenomenon associated with DRI - its ability to oxidize rapidly under certain circumstances, to heat up, and even to burn.
