Cosmologists'tunnel vision

Sir, Following Stuart Eves' fascinating study of current cosmologies (Spaceflight, October 2008, p402), it seems to me that cosmologists in general are either unaware of the spiritual element, or deny that it exists - 'dead in the water' as one Spaceflight correspondent put it. The trouble is that current cosmology, whether Big Bang or Steady State (continuous creation) is very materialistic, dealing as it does with the movement or supposed movement of bodies. There are no mystics among the cosmologers and, I suspect, vice versa. If the universe is, as Paul Brunton puts it, a great thought, there really is no way in which we can expect to develop a theory which is anywhere near correct.
