As I have approached the end of my three year term as President of the BIS I am aware that the Society has seen some major changes in that time, and I would like to take this opportunity not to claim any achievements of my own, but much more to thank quite a lot of people for what they have done in that time. When I took this job over in 2009 the Society had significant problems. While the 2008 IAF Congress had been a very successful Congress as such (and first, thanks to Suszann, John Harlow and the rest who worked to make it a success), due to circumstances outside our control it had left us with a serious debt to the IAF which, for a while even threatened the very existence of the Society.
