Connexion by Boeing Plans Broader Array of Services

Connexion by Boeing has successfully debuted its satellite-delivered Internet service aboard a Lufthansa Munich-to-Los Angeles flight and is planning an extension into maritime and land-based operations as well as an in-flight telephone service, Scott Carson, the company's president, said May 19. Addressing a Boeing investors conference in New York, Carson said airline passengers already are employing voice-over-Internet Protocol via Connexion using headsets and a boom mike attached to their laptop computers. The voice link travels the same route as the wireless data transmission that is digitized, sent to one of several satellites on which Connexion has leased capacity and then forwarded to the Internet backbone.
