Qualification Testing of THAAD Motor Completed

Aerojet of Sacramento, Calif., has completed the qualification phase of the boost motor for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency's Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program, an Aug. 26 Aerojet press release said. In the final qualification test Aug. 26, the motor was subjected to extremely cold temperature conditions. The motor was tested earlier this year at the uppermost operating temperature. The boost motor performed well during both tests, the press release said. The motors will boost the THAAD ballistic missile interceptor, which is designed to engage missile warheads inside and outside of Earth's atmosphere.
