Female CEO In A (Mostly) Male World

Zoreena Abas is one of the few and the proud. That is, she's a woman at the helm of a top audiovisual integration firm. There are plenty of women in our industry; most fill PR and marketing positions. However, it's unusual to see women as AV project managers, field installers, programmers, engineers or in top corporate positions. For Abas, who joined Duocom from DuoLogik when her family acquired the AV firms, it wasn't a huge leap to begin to understand AV integration, or how to prosper in a male-dominated industry. She has owned and managed several IT companies, including a prominent enterprise IT solutions company in Toronto for 23 years before selling it in 2007. "I'm able to understand AV easily due to my IT background." Likewise, she said, "Running a male-dominated business is not strange to me."
