The general case of analysis of embankment stability is examined with respect to an arbitrarily selected slip surface. Equilibrium equations of individual elements of an embankment are used to analyze its stability along a given slip surface. The problem of determining the coefficient of overall slope stability K is not statically determinable. Various assumptions have been proposed by different authors for the solution of this problem [1-5]. Pink [1] distributes the interelement forces applied to the vertical faces of an element from each side over a triangle, and their resultant is applied at a depth of 2/3 its height d. This assumption is used in this study, and corresponds to notions adopted in engineering practice for analysis of both the active and passive pressure of earth masses.
