Calculation of the Lateral Resistance of a Probe Based on Mechanical Characteristics of the Soil

Computational models of the sinking of a probe during static penetration in soils, which are based on problems of the expansion of spherical and cylindrical cavities in the soil, are examined, and results of the calculations are compared with data derived from geologic-engineering surveys.
