It seems accepted wisdom that smaller software companies are better at innovation than larger firms. But is this really true all the time? It goes without saying that start-up firms are the biggest source of produce breakthrough innovations. Classic examples in high-technology include Apple, Oracle, Microsoft, Symantec, all once small companies that introduced new ideas and products into the market and became successful. Today, companies look at firms such as Salesforce.com, Twitter, and Google as new examples of original thinking.
