BUILDING CASTLES IN THE AIR: THE DIGITAL VISUALIZATION OF ARCHITECTURE

A long-recognised indicator of a nation's economic health is the state of its building industry; boom means bricks and mortar, bust, stagnation. Economists are likely to learn rather less from monitoring the growing number of virtual buildings that take shape each year in the digital realm, though this phenomenon must be a measure of sorts. Most members of the SAHGB would no doubt rightly prefer to experience the sensory, intellectual and emotional delights of great architecture in the round than to look at a virtual model of a building on a computer monitor.
