Kαλοι κ'αγαθοι (The Beautiful and the Good): Classical School Architecture and Educational Elitism in Early Nineteenth-Century Edinburgh

This interdisciplinary paper has brought architecture and educational history together in an attempt to highlight and better understand the context, significance and early impact of two new high-status school buildings in early nineteenth-century Edinburgh. A deeper understanding of the origins of just two of these 'celebrated' schools has uncovered the complexity of Edinburgh's educational provision, its society and identity, at a specific moment in time, although more detailed and analytical historical research is required.
