Inclusion by numbers: New biomedical subjects and biopolitical citizens

I have the very happy task of reviewing the 2009 winners of the two book prizes awarded by the Society for Social Studies of Science. Steven Epstein's Inclusion won the Ludwik Fleck Prize for the best book in Science and Technology Studies (STS), and Jeremy Greene's Prescribing by Numbers won the Rachel Carson Prize for the best book in STS of social or political relevance. In 2009 (as in many other recent years) the difference between the two prizes was not important, as either book could have won the other prize.
