    Maho TOYODA is an associate professor in the Faculty of Letters at Kansai University in Osaka. She contributed Chapter 3, “Protective Labor Legislation and Gender Equality: The Impact of the Occupation on Japanese Working Women” to Mark E. Caprio and Sugita Yoneyuki's edited volume, Democracy in Occupied Japan: The U.S. Occupation and Japanese Politics and Society (London: Routledge, 2007: 67-88). She has also published in Japanese, including: Senryō ka no Josei Rōdō Kaikaku (Women's Labor Reform in the US Occupation of Japan) (Tokyo: Keiso Shobo, 2007), and “Sengo Nihon no Ba-su Kontoro-ru Undō to Kurarensu Gyanburu” (Clarence J.
