Top-producing Central Appalachia mines up 15% YOY in Q1’17

The top-producing coal mines in the Central Appalachian basin increased output by about a million tons in the first quarter of 2017 over the year-ago period, but showed only modest improvement for the 12-month period. The eastern basin’s top 25 mines ended the first quarter with about 8.6 million tons of production, up about 15% from the 7.4 million tons produced in the year-ago period. For the 12 months ending with the first quarter, the top-producing mines ticked up about 3.5% to end the period with 32.1 million tons.
