Considering the acres of print that have been devoted to the Flying Scotsman, you may have doubts about the need for another book on the subject, but this one is produced in conjunction with the National Railway Museum and the author, Phil Atkins, will need no introduction to members. The cover is immediately recognisable as being in the Haynes house style. Memories of Haynes car manuals covered in oily finger marks came to mind on seeing the book's cover. But this is not exactly in that mode. After all, strictly speaking the market for an owner's manual as such would be extremely limited.
