摘要

When al Qaida committed its atrocities against the United States on September 11, I was struck by two overarching emotions: anger and pain. Neither of those two emotions is very productive, and frankly I still feel anger and hurt about what happened to our nation. Shortly after that day of infamy, however, the dominant emotion that took root in me- and in the nation as a whole -was pride. My initial pride was in our uniformed personnel- our service men and women who answered the call to defend our country, as well as those police officers, firefighters and emergency rescue personnel who were the first line of response to these tragic attacks.
