On the railway lines in both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, limited functionality, unreliability, technological obsolescence and maintenance difficulties have so far characterised the existing signalling and telecommunications system. The project Modernisation of the signalling and telecommunications system on the section of the Doboj - Banja Luka railway line on parallel corridor X in the Republika Srpska unit is a continuation of the process of modernisation of the Republika Srpska railways. The modernisation of the signalling and telecommunications system on the Doboj - Banja Luka section and the automation of level crossings will improve the safety of rail traffic. The contract with the contractor AZD Praha was signed on 23 July 2015 and AECOM INOCSA S.L.U. (Spain) was selected as the consultant for this project. The total value of the investment was around EUR 20 million and the project will be financed by loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
