Coping with Complexity

With the memory capacity of computers increasing by a factor of four every three years it should not be surprising that applications in information and communications technology are proliferating. Keeping up with the extraordinary pace of hardware development is, however, becoming expensive and, in many cases, extremely complicated. What's needed, say the authors, are new man-machine interfaces that will make operating highly, complex systems simpler, safer and more convenient.
