Is There a Competitive Advantage of Nations?

Because national competitive advantages are based on the unique business histories of individual countries, attempts to imitate the competitive advantages of others are doomed to failure. Based on this thesis, the author argues that the past failures of British industrial policy were not the result of an attempt to pick winners, but were a reflection of a fundamental misperception regarding the country's vision of itself.
