Maritime history was made when the first NATO naval fleet to visit South Africa docked in Cape Town on 28 August. The SNMG1 (Standing Naval Maritime Group 1) Africa 2007 Maritime Group consisted of naval vessels from six nations and was on a two-month Circumnavigate Africa deployment with the purpose of building relationships with nations and exercising with African navies.
