Despite pulling out of a project for a multi-million pound joint terminal development with P&O Ferries at Cairnryan, Stena Line reassured politicians and local business people of a continuing commitment to ferry operations from Loch Ryan. Stena described Stranraer, existing starting point for high speed and conventional services to Belfast, as 'increasingly uneconomical', and extensive waterfront re-development plans were announced for 26 acres of land that would have been freed up by a move to Cairnryan.
