In my role as Chairman or the Sunderland City of Adelaide Recovery Foundation (SCARF) and as a Sunderland city Councillor, I believe passionately that the Scottish Maritime Museum's 145-year old composite-built clipper City of Adelaide should be saved from demolition and returned to Sunderland for restoration, the city where she was built in 1864.rnTo promote the vessel's plight, I boarded her on 12 October to 'reclaim' her for Sunderland. City of Adelaide is an outstanding example of early Sunderland shipbuilding. We can not simply sit on our hands and see part of our national maritime heritage reduced to a pile of rubble. To help save her SCARF is currently raising funds to get the ship on a barge and towed to Sunderland where she has been promised a 'safe berth'.
