It seems somehow fitting that two German-built ships, which operated together for 36 years, first across the North Sea and latterly in the Mediterranean, should end their days being demolished a few hundred yards apart on the same Indian beach. They even reached Alang in the order of entering service back in 1974, SNAVSicilia, the former Norland, arriving on 30 October 2010 with SNAV Campania, originally Norstar, berthing at Plot 51 just two days later on 1 November. The pair had been in service for Italian operator SNAV Aliscafi between Naples and Palermo, Sicily, and made final journeys under their own power via the Suez Canal and Jeddah.
