Humberside port celebrates entenary

The sun shone brightly on 22 July as the Associated British Ports' Port of Immingham on Humberside threw its doors open to the public for a Port Community Open Day to celebrate 100 years to the day since the port's official opening. For centuries the marshland village of Immingham had been a small rural settlement near the river Humber, but in 1906 the Great Central Railway decided to start work on a new dock installation to relieve congestion at their Grimsby Dock complex, while taking advantage of the deep water channel which ran nearby.
