Wind farm threat to Steam Packet

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company services from Heysham and Liverpool to Douglas are threatened by Centrica plans for further Irish Sea wind farm construction, which is likely to impede present tracks used on either route, with fears of extended journey times and an increased risk of cancellations. Steam Packet chief executive Mark Woodward said: 'Developing wind farms across our direct routes is unworkable. Material deviations are unacceptable, and we see no reason why Centrica cannot develop around these long-established direct shipping lanes, something that was originally promised 18 months ago.'
