Explosion cripples tanker

Stolt Tankers, owner and operator of the 2004-built chemical tanker Stolt Valor, which suffered a fire in mid-March while operating in the Persian Gulf, has confirmed that the 25,268dwt ship has been declared a constructive total loss for insurance purposes. The fire, generated by an explosion, occurred while the tanker was 27 nautical miles off Jubail, Saudi Arabia while carrying a cargo of methyl tertiary butyl ether and isobutanol.
