Massive blow for Indian Navy

A week of positives for the Indian Navy was dramatically curtailed by the sudden total loss of one of its submarines on 14 August. The Project 877EKM (Kilo class) vessel, INS Sindhurakshak, partially sank at her berth at Mumbai after an explosion and fire that killed at least 18 crew. The tragedy came just days after the nation celebrated the launch of its first indigenously-built aircraft carrier and the activation of the reactor on board its first locally-built nuclear submarine.
