Stockholm steamers revisited

Regarding the recent article about steamers in Stockholm (SM, July), Birger Jarl, pictured on p.28, ceased operating cruises in June 2013. She is now open as a hotel in Stockholm. The details given for Stockholm on p.30 are of a different ship. The ship in the picture was built in 1931 as the passenger and mail steamer OEland, serving the island of that name. She was later a car ferry between Sweden and Finland, and was used by the Finnish navy before being converted to begin her present role in 2000. She retains her original steam machinery, as well as diesel engines, but usually operates as a motor vessel.
