New lock gates for Antwerp

At the end of May the heavylift ship Zhen Hua 15 arrived at the port of Antwerp with four lock gates and two bridges to span the largest lock in the world, which is due to be put into service at the end of March 2016. The new gates and bridges were constructed at Shanghai, from where Zhen Hua 15 left on 7 April. The weight of the cargo - a little over 10,000 tons - and the dimensions of the lock gates - 70m in length -meant a careful stowing operation was needed on the 42m wide Zhen Hua 15, in preparation for the journey to Europe, which took over a month.
