One of the most important reminders of the Russian Revolution of 1917 has been removed from her berth in St Petersburg. The cruiser Aurora, which fired a historic shot to start the October 1917 uprising, is undergoing a major refit at Kronstadt Naval Base and will not be towed back until 2016. The $3.3 million refit includes cleaning and repainting Aurora's hull and restoring her interior to its 1917 condition, while new systems will be installed to ensure safe mooring, fire prevention and monitoring.
