Meet the captains on the bridge

Current Ulysses masters Calum Morrison and Paul Rayment both started at the bottom and worked their way up the promotion ladder before taking their present positions with the Irish Ferries flagship in 2005 and 2008 respectively. Born in Stornoway, Captain Calum Morrison started a cadetship with Glasgow's Denholm Ship Management aged 17. His first ferry experience was in 1988 during a Brittany Ferries charter of the Swedish-flagged Gotland for English Channel service, and the following year he did relief work for Irish Ferries aboard Saint Patrick Ⅱ. After joining fledging Irish Sea ro-ro company Merchant Ferries as Chief Officer, sailing between Heysham and Warrenpoint, he gained a first command on Merchant Venture at the age of 31 before becoming master and latterly senior master of Racehorse class lead ship Dawn Merchant until she moved to Dover in 2002.
