The long-serving passenger motor vessel The Second Snark has been sold by Clyde Marine Services to an American company based in San Francisco, whose billionaire owner plans to use her as tender for a fleet of racing yachts in the South of France. Built in 1938 by Wm Denny & Bros to serve as a tug and tender at their Dumbarton yard, The Second Snark replaced steam-powered vessel The Snark of 1906. After Dennys went out of business in 1963, the 120-passenger vessel cruised on the Forth for Brown Bros until returning to the Clyde in 1969 for trips from Greenock.
