Upon passing this edition for press, I realise that much of this issue's content makes not for good reading, as a fair percentage of the articles inside reflect an industry in a state of flux. On page 44 you will read that some 300 seafarers are being held hostage by Somali pirates and that calls have been made for shipping to be placed on a war footing, with naval vessels accom-panying the mercantile fleet through the treacherous waters of the Gulf of Aden in convoys, as they were during the Great War and its sequel.
